조지・워싱턴・게이소르즈

조지・워싱턴・게이소르즈(George Washington Goethals, 1858년 6월 29일- 1928년 1월 21일)는, 아메리카 합중국의 기술자.파나마 운하 건설의 총지휘 감독.

경력

1858년, 뉴욕시 블룩 인 출생.뉴욕 시립 대학 시티 컬리지 졸업 후, 뉴욕주 웨스트 포인트에 있는 육군 사관 학교에 배워 1880년에 졸업.

동1880년, USA CE(United States Army Corps of Engineers)로 일자리에 찔러, 1888년까지 엔지니어링을 가르쳤다.

1907년, 세오도어・루즈벨트 아메리카 합중국 대통령에 의해서 파나마 운하의 주임 기술자로 임명된다.

1914년, 웃드로우・윌슨 대통령에 의해서 파나마 운하 지대의 초대 민정 총독으로 임명된다.

1916년에 동운하 지대의 총독의 일자리를 물러난다.

공적에 연관되는 명칭

• 뉴욕시의 스타텐섬과 뉴저지주 엘리자베스시를 묶는 게이소르즈・브릿지의 이름은 그에게 연관되어 붙여졌다.
• 제2차 세계대전의 리버티선 「SS G. W. Goethals」의 이름은, 그에게 연관되어 붙여졌다.
