YIVO 유태 조사 연구소

YIVO(이보)는 1925년, 유태교 문화의 일대 중심지 비르노에 대하고, 막스・바인라이히등에 의해 이디시 과학 연구소(유태 학연 연구소) Yiddisher Visnshaftlikher Institut로서 설립되어 나치스의 만행을 피해 1940년에 미국으로 옮기고 나서는(YIVO) 유태 조사 연구소 Institute for Jewish Research를 정식적이다 명칭으로 하는 조직이다.YIVO라고 하는 이니셜에 의해서 잘 알려져 있다.

주로 유럽 동방의 유태인(아슈케나짐계)의 이디시어・이디시 문화의 탐구・연구・보존・진흥을 위한 기관이라는 것이 된다.

또, 가장 유력한 이디시어의 헤브루 문자 표기법(정서법, 철자법) en:orthography( 「YIVO식」이라고 말해진다)를 제창해, 또 이디시어의 사전 편집(편찬) lexicography를 실시하고 있는 기관이기도 하다.

원고, 희구본, 일기등을 보관하고 있다.뉴욕 본부는 100만 이상의 책을 소유해, 그 외 200만 이상의 보관 물품이 있다.
