특징

전세계의 열대・온대에 생식 한다.

다리가 매우 길다.주둥이(부리)는 홀쪽하고, 곧바로인가, 소리하시세이타카시기속으로는 위에 휘고 있다.

깊은 수역에서, 갑각류・곤충의 유충・작은 물고기등을 포식 한다.

계통과 분류

계통수는 Balker et al. (2007)[²]에 의한다.

세이타카시기 아과 sensu S&A	트키하시게리과Ibidorhynchidae   미야코드리과Haematopodidae 세이타카시기과 stilts   세이타카시기속Himantopus   무네아카세이타카시기 Cladorhynchus   소리하시세이타카시기속Recurvirostra

트키하시게리 Ibidorhyncha를 트키하시게리 아과 Ibidorhynchinae로서 포함하는(협의의 세이타카시기과는 세이타카시기 아과 Recurvirostrinae가 된다) 설도 있었지만, 트키하시게리는 근친인 것의 별계통이며, 단형의 트키하시게리과로 분리되었다.

Sibley & Ahlquist (1990)는(트키하시게리를 포함해) 세이타카시기족Recurvirostrini로 하고 있어, 세이타카시기족과 미야코드리족(미야코드리속Haematopus만, 현재는 미야코드리과)을 맞추어 세이타카시기 아과로 하고 있었다.

도요새과Scolopacidae와는 특히 근친은 아니다.
