토마스・호르스피르드
토마스・호르스피르드(Thomas Horsfield M. D., 1773년 5월 12일 – 1859년 7월 24일)은 아메리카 합중국의 의사, 박물학자이다.인도네시아에서 일해, 많은 식물, 동물에 대해서, 기재했다.후에, 런던의 동인도회사 박물관의 학예원이 된[1][2].

펜실베이니아주의 베들레햄에서 태어난[3].할아버지의 Timothy Horsfield, Sr. (1708- 1773)(은)는 리버풀 출생으로 1725년에 뉴욕에 이민으로서 건너 온 인물로 정육점을 경영한 후, 펜실베이니아에 이주해, 치안 판사를 맡아 선주민으로부터 개척민을 지키는 군의 장교를 맡은 인물이다.모라비아 교회의 학교에서 배운 후, 펜실베이니아 대학에 입학해, 오토 교수(John Frederick Otto?)의 아래에서 약학을 배워, 유독 담쟁이덩굴의 연구를 해 졸업한[1].
