하이히바고케(Hypnum cupressiforme)는, 세계적인 매우 넓은 분포를 가지는 이끼 식물이다.남극 대륙 이외의 모든 대륙에서 볼 수 있어 생식 환경이나 기후대도 다방면에 건넌다.통상은 나무가지나 통나무, 벽, 암, 그 외의 표면등에서 생육한다.산성의 환경을 좋아해, 공해에도 내성이 있다. 이전에는 베개나 매트리스의 내용에 사용되었던 적이 있어, 속명의 Hypnum은, 그리스 신화의 수면의 신인 휴프노스에 연관된다.

포자낭

이끼로서는 소형으로부터 중형으로, 2 cm에서 10 cm의 길이가 된다.줄기는 분기 해, 실 삼나무와 같은 잎에 덮여 있다.측과성으로 포복성이며, 매끄럽고 농밀한 3 mm에서 0.6 mm, 길이 1.0 mm에서 2.1 mm정도이다.잎은 요면에서 겸과 같은 형태이며, 상부가 테이퍼가 되어 있다.곁가지의 잎은 보다 작고 가늘다.포자를 포함한 약간 구부러진 원통형의 포자낭을 붙인다.포자낭은 1.7 mm에서 2.4 mm의 길이로, 0.6 mm에서 0.9 mm의 뚜껑과 같은 선개를 가진다.자웅이체이며, 웅체와 자체로는 구조가 다르다.하이히바고케는, 매우 변이가 많은 종이며, 많은 아종이 기재되어 있다.
