아르바레스사우르스(Alvarezsaurus 「알바레스의 도마뱀」의 의미)는 백악기후기, 약 8600 만년전-8300 만년전에 현재의 아르헨티나에 생식 한 아르바레스사우르스과의 소형 수각류 공룡의 속의 하나이다.체장 약 2 m, 체중 20 kg 정도라고 추정되고 있다.1991년, 바호・데・라・카르파 누층(en)으로 화석에 근거해, 고생물 학자 호세・보나파르테(영문판)에 의해 기재되었다.속명은 역사가 그레고리오・알바레스(스페인어판)에 헌명 된 것이다.

복원도

타입종은 A. calvoi이다.2족 보행이며, 긴 꼬리와 다리를 갖고, 이 구조로부터 발이 빠른 동물이었다고 추정된다. 식충성(영문판)인 가능성이 있다.모노니크스나 슈브위아등이 속하는 아르바레스사우르스과의 기저적인 멤버이다.이 과는 비새공룡으로 여겨지는 경우도 초기의 조류로 여겨지는 경우도 있다.

대중문화에 대해

아르바레스사우르스는 발견 채널의 TV프로 다이너소어 플라넷에 있어 젊은 사르타사우르스를 덮치는 포식자로서 등장한다.그러나, 실제로는 같은 시대에 생식 있지 않고, 아르바레스사우르스는 사르타사우르스보다 약 500 만년 낡은 시대의 생물이다.
