개요

일본의 고유종으로, 오키나와현의 야에야마 제도(이시가키섬・이리오모테지마)에 분포한다.산지의 자연림내에 생육한다.

상록의 아고목으로, 나무의 높이는 4-5 m.잎은 호생, 장 타원장 타원형~란장 피침형으로, 길이 4-7 cm, 엽연에는 작은 톱니가 있어, 가죽질로, 표면은 광택을 띤다.꽃은 잎겨드랑이를 뒤따라, 색은 희다.작은 가지는 아리게에서, 흰 털이 나 있는 것이 특징이다.
