인터네이션

인터네이션(영어: intonation, 영어 발음: [□intou□nei□□n] [□int□□nei□□n])이란, 음성 언어에 대해 문장 또는 발화 전체에 붙여진 소리의 높낮이(피치)의 패턴을 말한다.음조(은총)나 억양(자주(잘)나름)이라고도 말한다.인터네이션의 틀림에 따라 문법적 기능이나 발화의 뉘앙스를 나타낼 수 있다.

인터네이션의 패턴은, 상승조, 하강조, 자연 하강조라고 하는 용어로 나타내진다.국제 음성 기호로는 상승조에[□], 하강조에[□]를 맞히고 있다.일본에서는 상승조에[□], 하강조에[□]를 맞히는 것이 많다.

단어 마다 결정할 수 있던 소리의 높낮이의 차이는 높낮이 악센트 혹은 성조이며, 인터네이션과는 구별되고 있다.예를 들면 「도쿄 방언과 오사카 방언으로는"다리"라고"젓가락"의 높낮이의 발음이 역이다」라고 하는 것은 악센트의 차이이며, 인터네이션의 차이는 아니다.
