실링산은 레드 와인에 포함되는 마르비진의 분해 산물이기도 해, 고대 이집트의 음료 shedeh에 실링산이 존재하고 있던 것으로부터, 이 음료가 포도로부터 만들어져 있었던 것이 분명해졌다.
