윌리엄 위무잣토(William C.Wimsatt)는 태어난 것이다.

에서 1971 년 Ph. D를 받았다. 2010 년 현재는 철학과 명예 교수, 전문. 저작권 자체는 그다지 많지는 않으나 발생 논란이 특히 알려져 있으며, 발생 고착 (generative entrenchment) 아이디어 (발생 초기에 일수록 돌연변이가 발생한 경우에는 그 발생 과정에 큰 영향을 미칠 수 있기 때문에 안정하고 있다는 것) 등이 유명하다.
