Peter Collinson

피터・코린 손(Peter Collinson, 1694년 1월 – 1768년 8월 11일)은, 영국의 식물학자, 상인, 원예가이다.왕립 협회의 펠로우로 선택되어 식물학자 존・바트 램이나 과학자 벤저민・프랭클린등이 많은 과학자와 교류했다.

약력

런던의 그리스도우회(Religious Society of Friends：퀘이커)에 속하는 모직물 상인의 아들로 태어났다.부친의 일에 종사하는 한편, 식물학에의 흥미가 깊어졌다.17728년 10월에 왕립 협회의 회장 한스・스론에 켄트주에서 일어난 사건을 알리는 편지를 써, 1728년 11월에 회원이 되는 것을 추천할 수 있었다.상인으로서 북아메리카와 거래를 실시하고 있었으므로, 거래처를 통해서, 식물이나 종자를 입수했다.팩 햄(Peckham)이나 미리힐(Mill Hill)에 개인의 컬렉션을 만들어 유명하게 되었다.해외로부터 식물을 수입해 판매하는 장사가 되는 것에 깨달아, 1730년대 마지막에 영국의 수집가에게 향해서 북아메리카의 식물의 종을 수입하는 일을 시작해 아메리카 합중국의 식물학자 존・바트 램의 채집 여행의 자금을 제공했다.바트 램이 모은 신대륙의 식물의 종자는, 영국의 귀족, 원예상, 박물학자에게 매년 배포되었다.예를 들어, 요한・야코프・디 렌, 필립・미러, 피터경(Robert Petre, 8 th Baron Petre)이나 리치 사교계 공작이나 제임스・고든, 존・부시등의 원예가나 애호가가, 종자를 받았다.박물 화가로 박물학자 마크・케이트비의 활동을 원조한 혼자서 있다.

1747년에는 스웨덴 왕립 과학 아카데미의 외국인 회원으로 선택되었다.
