Browser Helper Object

Browser Helper Object (BHO)와는 Internet Explorer 및 Windows 익스플로러로 사용하는 플러그 인을, 제3자라도 작성할 수 있도록(듯이) 하는 Microsoft Windows의 짜, 및 그 구조에 의해서 생성된 COM 오브젝트이다.1997년에 Internet Explorer의 버전 4보다 실장되었다.

Internet Explorer판의 Google 툴바나 Adobe Acrobat의 플러그 인[¹]등은, BHO로 실장되고 있다.대부분의 BHO는 Internet Explorer의 기동시에 실행되어 브라우저의 스타트 페이지나 검색 페이지, 툴바의 설정, 유저가 열람한 Web 사이트의 정보의 수집, 팝업의 작성, 마음에 드는 등록등의 기능을 커스터마이즈, 컨트롤 할 수 있다.또, 몇개의 모듈로는 브라우저가 본래 표시할 수 없는 다른 파일 포맷의 형식의 표시를 가능하게 한다.반면, 악의가 있는 BHO를 수중에 넣어 버리면 브라우저의 기능을 납치되어 버리기 위해, 플러그 인등을 조심성없게 인스톨 하지 않는 것이, 유저에게 있어서 중요하다.
